The Canadian Chopin Festival is proud to partner with the Royal Conservatory to present the First Prize Winner of the 8th National Chopin Piano Competition of the U.S. in concert.

The 16th International F. Chopin Piano Competition

Founded in 1927, the International F. Chopin Piano Competition is one of the oldest and most prestigious events of its kind. Held every five years in Warsaw, Poland the competition attracts the most accomplished young pianists from around the world.

Winners have included Maurizio Pollini (1960), Martha Argerich (1965), Garrick Ohlsson (1970), Krystian Zimerman (1975), Yundi Li (2000) and Rafal Blechacz (2005).

The 16th International F. Chopin Competition begins with a Preliminary Round held in Warsaw from April 12–21, 2010.

The pianists who qualify will return to Warsaw for the Competition which will take place from October 2–23, 2010. The first, second and third prize winners Senior Division of the Third Canadian Chopin Piano Competition will receive airfare and accommodation to facilitate their participation in this illustrious musical event.
